Midgame Guide Mage Leveling (Map world)

By admin On November 30, 2009 No Comments

This is a guide to leveling as a mage. I’ll touch on subjects such as: leveling methods, specs, and gear.

The class
The mage is part of the holy trinity of MMO-classes: warrior, priest, mage. The mage is the king of DPS (especially after 1.11) and crowdcontrol (CC) and has utility as well (water/food/portals/buffs).

Leveling methods
As a mage you have 50% more options to level, than other classes have. Whichever you choose, I highly suggest doing nothing but instances from 58-60 to gear up and get all your key quests done. Not doing so, means missing out on a huge amount of XP.

The traditional ways are:

Grinding:
Not much to say about this. You kill mobs, they give XP, you lvl. If you don’t have a comprehensive knowledge of where quests take you and which order is best, grinding is pretty fast for leveling.
It can be pretty boring, but listening to music or being on Vent/TS helps a lot. Get a rhytm going and stay in it. Take breaks when you mana up to not go completely blind :)

The following is pretty good list of where to grind which mobs. It is however from a Horde perspective and you need to scroll down a bit to get to the guide :) If you read the whole bit, there are some suggestions for alternatives, which work just as well…if not better.
http://www.mpsgames.com/ms/index.cfm?page=topic&topicID=31653&categoryid=20&forumid=63

And the following lists some nice alliance spots for grinding. Also are some suggestions on questing.
http://www.wow-pro.com/Knowledge_Base/op=show/kid=515.html

Questing:
If you know your way around the world, this is the fastest way to level up. This is also known as gresting to some. Decent horde guides are few and far between (there are some on this site), alliance have it a lot better.

Horde – if you are horde, use Joana’s guide. That will take you from 1-60 in 5 days /played. It’s written from a hunter perspective, so my suggestion is staggering your progress in the guide by a lvl or two. Other than that, there are some (admittedly with holes in them) guides here in the strat section. An idea is to try and modify the following Alliance guide.
http://forums.blizzhackers.com/viewtopic.php?t=309717 is the text guide (thanks Bay_Cassius
http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=wow+world+of+warcraft+levels are links to all the videos (thanks sQren)

Alliance – if you are Alliance, you got it made! The following guide will quickly and easily take you from 30-60. Reason it’s 30, is because of the quests pre that are in and around the starter areas, so just level quickly to 30 and you are set.
http://www.wow-pro.com/Knowledge_Base/cat=135.html

AOE’ing:
This is where the mage can level differently. By using their Area of Effect spells, they can decimate scores of lower level enemies, thus gaining experience quickly.
The most comprehensive guide to AOE spots is from the official WOW forums
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-mage&t=48467&p=1&tmp=1#post48467

Doing it this way, takes some learning and it goes a lot smoother if you duo’ing, either with another AOE class or a healer. But you will level pretty quickly.

Talent Specs
For leveling I recommend Fire, then arcane or frost. For optimal leveling, you should respec at 58-60, when you start to raid. When you start to end-game raid, you should respec once again. I will also make a mage end-game guide, where I will touch upon these points.

Some people recommend ice for leveling, especially after 1.11, but I still prefer fire: damage from frost is dependent on crits and fire isn’t so much. The base fireball has higher DPS than frost and with fire you have longer range.
Here is a small discussion of fire vs frost.
http://www.mpsgames.com/ms/index.cfm?page=topic&topicID=36492

This is the spec I suggest for leveling. This works very well when grinding, since you can DPS relatively well in melee with scorch or wand. Of course, it also works for gresting :) :
http://www.wowhead.com/talent/?k0gV0oZEgGzf0ut
13/38 ARC/FIRE

Focus on improving your fireball up to lvl 40 (reduced cast time first, then stun. Rest is up to you), then put 7 points in arcane up to wands, then the rest in fire and finally the last points in arcane.

Method of pulling: Max range, then Pyroblast, Fireball, Fireball and then either fireblast/scorch/wand until dead (if you are lazy) or Frost Nova, get range, Fireballs until dead.

This is the spec I suggest for AOE’ing. It’s based around frost and it’s AOE abilities.
http://www.wowhead.com/talent/?ocxVcoZZVVMIsbtho
17/34 ARC/ICE
Go up through through ice to improved Blizzard, then fill out arcane, then go ice until 60.

Method of AOE’ing: If the mobs are grouped, get max range, pop Ice Barrier and Blizzard them. You should be able to get 2 off. Then Frost Nova and Cone of Cold and Arcane Explosion until they die. If things get too hot, Ice Block, Frost Snap, Frost Nova, Ice Barrier, get range and repeat.

Gear
If you are grinding or gresting, you should go for +dam gear. Fireballs are on a 3.5 sec cast time, so get the full effect from the damage gear. Mana isn’t really a concern since you have free drinks. Sip after every pull or every other pull, then you’ll be fine.
If you are AOE’ing, you need a mix of INT and STAM if you don’t have a healing buddy. You will mostly be casting instants or long channeled spells, so you will not get so much use out of damage.

When you start getting to 50+, this is a list of damage gear you should get:
http://www.mpsgames.com/ms/index.cfm?page=topic&topicID=36269&categoryid=20&forumid=62

And to further supplement the above list, this is from the official forums:

WoW Rep Grind and Rewards (Map world)

By admin On November 29, 2009 No Comments

Timbermaw Hold – has rewards for enchanting / tailor / leatherworker / blacksmith / alchemy
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info…aw/rewards.html

Grinding faction with the Timbermaw is one of the more time consuming factions to gain. There are two zones with two or three area’s to kill mobs for faction.

The first zone is Felwood (http://www.thottbot.com/?z=67). Here you will kill Deadwood Avengers, Den Watchers, Gardeners, Shaman, Pathfinders, and Warriors. Each kill is worth 5 rep. One of the first quest you want to gain is ‘Deadwood of the North’. This quest will require you to kill X number of Deadwood mobs. Once you have completed the quest you then get a repeatable quest to turn in 5 Deadwood Headdress Feathers. Each turn in is worth 50 rep if my memory serves me correct. Also, while killing the deadwood creatures you will come upon a unique item called ‘Deadwood Ritual Totem’. Once you are neutral with the Timbermaw You can turn in the totem for even more rep.

The other location to gain Timbermaw rep is in Winterspring (http://www.thottbot.com/?z=71). Here you will kill Winterfall Totemics, Pathfinders, Den Watchers, Shaman, Ursas, Runners, and the High Chief Winterfall. The High Chief is worth 25 rep and the other mobs 5 rep. Like in Felwood you can get a quest called ‘Winterfall Activity’ to kill X number of Winterfalls for rep. Once you have done that quest you can do the repeatable quest to turn in Winterfall Spirit Beads. Also, just like in Felwood a unique item drops that starts a quest called Winterfall Ritual Totem. Once you are neutral with the Timbermaw you can turn in the totem for even more rep.

Cenarion Circle – has rewards for enchanting / leatherworker
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info…tions/cenarion/

I have just started working on my Cenarion Circle faction. As such this may not be a complete guide. One of the first quest that you can gain to earn faction is called ‘True Believers’ and ‘Secret Communications’. You kill humanoids called Twilight Avengers, GeoLords, Stonecallers, etc. to find Encrypted Twilight Texts. You can continue to turn in 10 pages for faction. Each Twilight you kill also gives you 1 rep point. Once you have reached friendly with Cenarion Circle you can continue on to another quest. Here you collect a Twilight Cultist set (Robe, Cowl, Mantle) in order to gain access to a lesser summon stone I think it is. Useing the stone brings forth a level 58-60 elite. Killing the elite drops another item that you collect. Sorry, only done it once so far and can’t remember the name. Collect three of these to get a token or something that is then used to move up to bigger and better summoned mobs. At the highest tier you can summon a god which is a 40 man raid boss mob.

Thorium Brotherhood – has rewards for Enchanting / Blacksmith / Leatherworking / Tailoring / Alchemy
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info…ium/vendor.html

Be prepared to do alot of farming or spend some $$ to gain Thorium Brotherhood faction. There are a number of quest in Searing Gorge (http://www.thottbot.com/?z=55) to get you started. Once you have done all the starter quest you can then work on a repeatable quest to get your rep up to friendly. The quest is called ‘Restoring Fiery Flux Supplies’ and will either use iron, heavy leather, or kingsblood. You will also need to collect Incendosaur Scales to add with the iron, heavy leather, or kingsblood when turning in the quest. Once you hit friendly status with the Brotherhood you need to start collecting Dark Iron Residue. There are three ways to collect residue. The easy way is to just buy residue from the AH. The other two ways is to mine
dark iron nodes that spawn randomly or to loot residue from the npc’s in the BRD instance.

Argent Dawn
– has rewards for everyone
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info…ent/vendor.html

Argent Dawn rep is one of the easier factions to gain. To start there are numerous quest for both the Horde and Alliance to perform. Once those are done you can continue to kill the undead in Western and Eastern Plaguelands, and the instances in those zones for ‘tokens’ to turn in for rep.

Major City Faction

There are three main ways to ‘farm’ a major city faction outside of your normal every day quest currently. First way is to turn in runecloth to gain rep with a specific city. The second way is to turn in supplies for the AQ war effort and then turn in the tokens for rep. The last way is to farm rep in AV. Each time you turn in a body part, mine supply, etc. in AV you not only get the AV rep but also +10 or more rep with a major city. So you can easily gain access to a cross-racial mount.

Additional Rewards
Texts add 100 rep per 10 turned in, on my server the usually go 20g/stack of 20. you can, as the OP said grind rep from the twilight guys (1 per kill, up to 5 for the ‘twilight keeper’ mobs) and collect the texts off them. turn in 10 texts and you’ve got a nice chunk of rep.

after you summon the Templars from the Lesser Windstones (the ones that need just the robe/cowl/mantle. also noted you can usually Duo these, get a tank and a healer and you’re set.) you can turn 3 of the Crests in, along with a Large Brilliant Shard, to get an item to summon Dukes. Dukes get summoned from the Regular Windstones, and require the mantle/cowl/robe and the necklace you got from turning in the 3 crests and the LBS. they can usually be 5 manned, and you will need a warrior to hold aggro. Dukes have some very interesting loot, Soulrenders are popular for Hunters/DW Fury Warriors, etc. Dukes give roughly 25 rep per kill (i think). you kill 3 of them, with each kill you get Signets. these Blue items can be turned into CH, along with 5 LBS for a ring to summon Lords. Lord summons require the mantle/cowl/robe, the Neck from summoning the Dukes, as well as the ring you got for turning in the 3 signets and the LBS’s. these lords require 20-40 people depending on your guild’s skill level and gear level. they drop some REALLY good epic quality items, one per type (Fire drops a caster ring, Water drops a healer neck, Wind drops a DPS cloak, and Earth drops a warrior shield.) these, when killed, give 50 rep (i think) and give you an Abyssal Scepter. these get turned in for rep as well… i dont know how much (usually whoever supplies a majority of the mats for summoning Lords gets it)

also, if your server has opened up AQ, AQ20 is a good place to get rep. bosses give 100 CC rep per kill, trash mobs give 1-5 per kill, but theres a lot of trash in there. so if you’ve got a good guild together, tear up AQ20 for some fun rep grinding.

most importantly, save quests for when you’re Honored or Revered, same with texts. grind the trash in Silithus until they dont give rep any more, then turn in those texts you’ve been saving as well as the quests you’ve been saving as well.

AD Rep grind: if you’re high level (upper 50′s to 60) theres a good spot in EPL you can grind on. Fungal Glade, on my server, is RARELY camped, and i can usually make constant circles around it solo. the NPCs up here drop Invaders Scourgestones, and give rep until you’re Revered with AD. after you hit Revered, go ahead and turn in those tokens (10 Invader’s gives you an honor token, which gives like 50 rep i think) and grind Scholomance (more bosses = more rep ) and turn in those quests you’ve been saving up.

Hunter’s Rogue Melee Destroyer Method (Darkspear gold)

By admin On November 29, 2009 No Comments

Heres my Hunter’s recpide for Rogue / Melee Destruction:

Range is the key to PVP when using your Hunter. If you let the rogue, or other melee class get near you for more than 5 seconds, you may as well just lay down. You are a RANGED fighter, so use range or die.

Buy some gear, cheapskate!

Items that I use for PVP:
Bow of Searing Arrows + Sniper Scope.
Best arrows for your level + quiver.
The best armor and gear available to you.
Discombobulator Ray (made by engineers, i carry at least 2 – 5 shot rays with me always).
Highest Health Potions you can get.
Agility Potions, and any other stat bonus potions if you can afford them. (if not you should hunt more, fool!)

Shots used:
Concussion Shot
WIng Clip
SERPENT Sting (edited/corrected)
Rapid Fire
Arcane Shot

When in PVP mode, keep Track Hidden up always. Rogues will get the jump on you and you are dead before you can swing twice.

Heres how i beat melee classes up to 3 levs above me without a hitch:

First off, make sure you hotkey your shots for quick access. You lose much time by fumbling with the mouse clicking. Keep your fingers on key and ready. Rogues and other melees are quick to jump on you and slice you to bits, and you wont have a chance in hell with even the best melee weapon.

Be aware of your situation, always…..keep a sharp eye out, and be ready for anything. When horde hunting, i find a nice little hiding spot with some cover, and I try to use the terrain obstacles to my advantage. Be sly, you are a hunter, so HUNT.

Hunters Mark – ALWAYS.

Ice Trap. Then pull them into the Ice Trap with a Serpent Sting from MAXIMUM DISTANCE. I park my pet right on it, and have it set to attack freely so i dont have to click on Pet Attack. I often get tricky and place terrain obstacles between me and my target…trees, rocks, etc. This makes a great spot to place your trap.

Once he’s slowed from the Ice Trap, fire Rapid Fire to get things rolling, keep moving backwards and strafing AWAY from them, then fire Concussion Shot. Keep backing up the entire time, keeping as much distance as possible. When the Concussion Shot breaks, you will be face to face with him, but dont melee, use your Wing Clip and get distance again, firing another Serpent Sting. (your autofire will always kick in for you when you fire a new special).

Your Concussion Shot will be recharged by this time, so use it, back up again, and fire Arcane Shot and keep plugging away with your auto fire.

If you find yourself in a tight spot where he has closed in on you, use your Discombobulator Ray immediately. This will slow him, and decrease his damage to you, allowing you AGAIN to get range between you and him, and keep firing till he drops. Its so cool watching a fat hordie turn into a Leper Gnome!

Do use your arcane shot for finishing touches, and for extra damage when you can.

If you keep your cool, and dont panic, you can drop most any melee player with this method, even a couple levels above you. Dont be afraid to use a Health Potion or a Clicky Heal item when needed.

Feign Death is your last option. Most times if i screw up, i will take it like a man and just go down honorably (cept for when fighting you smelly hordies!)

Making Money Like Hell Having 2 Accounts With T2 (Game guide)

By admin On November 28, 2009 No Comments

Its "very" special, but its so damn profit-yielding, that I want to share it with you.

It is possible to play 2 accounts at the same time if you play in window mode. Maybe you are in the same lucky position having a second account with a 60er from a friend or guildie.

Whats the point? Farm lbrs Vosh’gajin (T0 Rogue gloves) and Voone (T0 hunter gloves). In the auction house you get 150g and more for these every day … If you play the 2 accounts alone in window mode and find a way to farm these, the whole profit is yours. The first trys I needed over an hour only for Vosh’gajin. Now I get both in less then 25 min. With this I made over 2k gold in the last 2 weeks with less than 2 hours of work a day.

I play a t2 priest and a t2 rogue. Can bypass nearly everything with stealth / Mind Soothe / rogue pulls => priest runs without aggroing => rogue vanish. Use of mindcontrol in every group.
Maybe possible with warrior/priest, druid/priest, druid/rogue, druid/druid? I don’t know. Try it out. If you find a way with your combo you get rich ^^. Maybe you don’t even need t2, but for voone your tank/rogue needs at least 4k hp unbuffed cause he sometimes hits very hard with a double 2k dmg mortal strike to leather. A high dodge/parry stat can save the healer mana (my rogue has about 36% dodge).

edit: Made a small screenshotguide for you: http://img301.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lbrst0farming6yt.jpg

EDIT: 31.07.2006: Don’t farm this way anymore. I think, blizzard lowered the dropchance of both gloves A LOT. When I posted this it was like 1 glove of 2 runs, now its like 1 of 10. In addition you doesn’t get as much money for them in the AH now – something about < 100g. . It’s no more worth the time.

Double Hearthstone Trick (Medivh gold)

By admin On November 25, 2009 No Comments

A bit of server lag will let you set your hearthstone right before you port, but still go to your old location. Talk to an innkeeper to set your hearthstone to a new location, but don’t confirm it. Use your hearthstone to return to the old spot. Then, right before you teleport, accept the innkeeper. If done right you’ll have your hearthstone set to where you teleported from even though you teleported! Even if you don’t have enough to do before you’d want to go back a bit of time spent grinding beats waiting on transport.

Remember that you can repeat the trick when you hearth back to your original location. If you use it right you can basically keep two places hearthed at once.

See Ghosts (Gorefiend gold)

If you have a warlock cast ‘Detect invisibility’ on you, you can see Lorderon Citizens on your way in to Undercity. They are lvl 15, and drop linen, and some copper. It’d be a good lowbie lvling spot if you could get detect invisibility on you at that lvl :/

This also works for the people in Darrowshire and on that island Scholo is on, only they are lvl 55ish, not 15.
